Quotes of note..from a sixties icon.

A photograph can be an instant of life captured for eternity that will never cease looking back at you.
Brigitte Bardot

I have been very happy, very rich, very beautiful, much adulated, very famous and very unhappy.
Brigitte Bardot

Every age can be enchanting, as long as you live within it.

I have to live with both my selves as best I may.

SIXTIES STYLE ICONS

BRIGITTE BARDOT

Arguably the most famous sex-kitten of all time - she was to the Sixties what Marilyn Monroe was to the Fifties - Brigitte Bardot's beauty and style is still an inspiration to this very day. The French actress, born in 1934, was the embodiment of the Sixties carefree, laisez-faire lifestyle; residing in St. Tropez, she enjoyed the heady existence that typified the time, making films, music and love in abundance. She is credited with boosting the popularity of the bikini and, of course, outrageously sexy hairstyles, like voluminous tousled curls, and the beehive. She shot to fame in 1956 in her then-husband Roger Vadim's And God Created Woman. In 1973, just before her 40th birthday, Brigitte announced her retirement - after making 50 films and several albums, she chose to dedicate her life to animal rights campaigns, with which she's still heavily involved to this day.

TWIGGY

Regarded as the first teenage supermodel, Twiggy was the face of Sixties London. As soon as she hit the scene in 1966, she was an instant icon. Possibly the first 'size zero' model, Lesley Hornby became
known by her childhood nickname of Twiggy. Her high fashion mod style, created by Mary Quant, and short-haired androgynous look made tidal waves in the fashion world. She was also well known for drawing huge fake
eyelashes under her bottom lashes. Twiggy, who was born in 1949, became a worldwide phenomenon when she landed in New York in 1967, and her 'look' still pervades the catwalks today.

SIXTIES STYLE ICONS

MARY QUANT
Think fashion in the Sixties, think Mary Quant. Best-known as the creator of the miniskirt (one of the defining looks of the Sixties) - although André Courréges also lays claim to this -
she also pioneered other styles that became known as signature Sixties: coloured and patterned tights, paint-box make-up, plastic macs and, in the later Sixties, hotpants. Her first shop on London's King's Road,
Bazaar - the destination for cool-cats and trendsetters - became so popular she opened another one in Knightsbridge and, by 1965, was importing to the US. Prominent journalist Bernard Levin aptly described her as the 'High Priestess of Sixties Fashion' and, in 1966, she was honoured with an OBE for her services to the fashion industry.

Lily Allen sells her soul to Vintage

The always adorable Lily Allen is getting ready to launch her new, reworked vintage clothing line. Her line is called Lucy in Disguise. A cute play on the Beatles song I presume.

Designer Wayne Hemingway a summer festival celebrating British music and fashion. Sandie Shaw, Heaven 17, Aswad, Buzzcocks and The Damned will be some of the acts performing at Vintage at Goodwood in West Sussex in August.

Earlier this year, Allen had announced she would be taking a break from music. Her new endeavors include this collection of reworked vintage clothing. She is partnering with her sister and some friends.

I know people often criticize celebrities who think they can launch a clothing line, act, sing, and basically anything under the sun. But in the case of musicians, I think they actually have a firmer connection to fashion than actors or socialcelebutantes

What suits you ? Vintage style !

The important thing with fashion do's and dont's is to get to know your body, find out what your body shape is and embrace it.

Us women are all built diffrently, We are all 'Unique' each one different in our own way. But we do have one thing in common we all want to accentuate our positives and take focus off our less favoured assets.

Here is some advice on choosing vintage clothing to suit your body shape, But remember if you feel good and walk tall with a smile you will look good regardless of shape or size.

Hourglass Lovelys
The 1950's LOVED a shapely hourglass figure like Marilyn's. Cinched waists, snug cardigan sweaters, and hip skimming capri pants or pencil skirts make an hourglass figure look at its best.

Perfect Pears
A-line dresses circa the 1960's can be very flattering on pear shapes, just watch the length and fabric type. Longer skirt style like those of the 1970s combined with a fitted top are a great fit, but avoid the hip hugging bell bottom styles of the same decade.

Juicy Apples
With a sizable bust and shapely legs, pick one to show off. Any decade that doesn't emphasize the waist will look great on this body shape including the 30s, 60s, 70s.

Rectangle Sweet Hearts
1930's flapper styles, 40's wide shouldered suits, and straight 60's mod styles were made for this body shape. Any waist or bustline emphasis will backfire on this shape.

Go Green wear vintage

Most vintage clothing lovers have a certain something in their personality that draws them to wearing it. There are lots of reasons why vintage is such a great choice, but the most fulfilling reason is that wearing vintage clothing is the most environmentally friendly way of dressing.

Every time you buy or wear vintage clothing instead of newly manufactured clothing you are recycling. That clothing is getting a second chance and being saved from the landfill every time you wear it. An average of 11.8 million tons of clothing per year gets thrown away.

For every new item of clothing that is made, A substantial carbon footprint is left behind. Fuel used in manufacture, fuel to transport and fuel to ship the finished product; it all adds up for something so small. The amount of energy needed to produce vintage clothing is zero & most vintage retailers buy wholesale/bulk so the shipping costs are far less.

The dyes, chemicals, and processes used to produce wrinkle resistant, colorfast, soft, unshrinkable modern clothing are not what anyone would call eco-friendly. Often the waste from manufacturing clothing like jeans is dumped into the water supply in the third world country that they are manufactured in. Why would you want that chemical weight on your body or on your conscience?
